Stop unwanted windows 10 auto updates

Disable windows 10 auto update

The windows 10 unwanted auto update eats the most of internet data. It runs in background and also decreases the internet speed. When you try to stop it from settings it says updated are paused but they are running. Its a big problem for those who use the mobile hotspot for internet. It may end your all daily limited data with in a hour. We come with some solutions to stop this.

How to stop windows 10 auto update?

Method #1

  • Open settings (press start button + i )
  • Locate Windows Update in top right of settings and click on that
  • Click on pause update for 7 days.

Method #2

  • Click on Wi-Fi or Ethernet icon in task bar
  • If you are connected to Wi-Fi then click on your connected device and then click on properties. If ethernet then double click on your connected device.
  • In ethernet it will open settings. Again click on connected device in settings.
  • Now find the Set as Metered connection option in the opened window.
  • Then Turn on Metered connection.
This is a very useful method to disable auto updates. Some times the widows Delivery Optimization runs in background. The metered connection can't stop that.

Method #3

  • Press start + R
  • Type services.msc and hit enter.
  • Scroll down and find Windows Update and double click on that
  • In start type select "disabled"
I have used this method but it doesn't work all time.

Method #4

  • Go to settings
  • Click on update and security
  • In windows update click on Advanced options
  • Find pause update
  • Select the date that you want

Method #5

This is the best method that I use and recommend you to use. First make sure that you have turned on Metered Connection.
  • First down Netlimiter 4 it is a very useful paid app and comes with a 30 day trial.
  • In activity window if delivery optimization use net then set limiter on this.
If any issues then don't hesitate to comment.
